Sensational
Meditation for Children - Multi-Cultural
meditation techniques based on the five senses.
What's
Inside:
Introduction
Who’s teaching meditation to children, why are they
doing it and when is the right time for you to begin gifting
your child with this life-changing skill.
Chapter
1: Meditation Helps Children Nurture Mind, Body and Spirit
How students can raise their test scores by 33%, stay healthier
and reduce anxiety about school, relationships and family.
Children learn how to become better athletes, strengthen
their academic skills, understand their bodies’ needs
and find spiritual fulfillment with meditation.
Chapter 2: Meditation Helps Children Find Answers to Life’s
Questions
When a child uses meditation to open up to deeper aspects
of his being, he learns about himself and his needs. This
helps him better understand his changing world and become
more intimate with his thoughts and emotions.
Chapter
3: The Ten Senses and the Full Sensational Experience
What if I close my eyes and imagine tasting a tangy orange
- would I taste it? Not only do we sense smells, sounds,
tastes, images and feelings around us, we also experience
these same senses when we go inward. Five additional senses
allow us to perceive and experience our inner worlds, which
are just as important as our outer senses for our wellbeing.
Chapter
4: Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning
Learning styles are based on the senses we use to understand
our world. Knowing these learning styles helps us truly
inspire a child’s meditation experience. To support
visual learning, for example, help your child create a collage
of pictures representing a particular goal. Then lead him
to visualize his goal being met in meditation.
Chapter
5: Meditating with your Child – Tips for Success
How should parents introduce and teach such a delicate practice
as meditation to their children? A solid foundation including
definitions, expectations, postures, songs, discussions
and ice breakers. Also, why art, writing and music are effective
ways for children to integrate meditation into their worlds.
Chapter
6: The Sensational Child
Is there one sure-fire approach to teaching meditation to
children? No. Each child is unique and his behaviors vary
from one minute to the next. Spontaneity and a full tool
belt brimming with options is your best bet.
Chapter
7: The Sensational Parent
What if your child doesn’t want to meditate? In this
pivotal part of the book, learn to bring out the sensational
parent in you to be the inspiration your child needs.
Chapter
8: Clearing My Mind
It is all in the presentation. Simple breathing exercises
and mantra meditations can be fun and exciting when a child
places his favorite bean bag animal on his belly and chooses
a mantra from a magic hat.
Chapter
9: Healing My Body
Science shows that meditation helps improve our physical
health. Whether your child has a tummy ache, winter cold
or trouble sleeping, meditation is a perfect way for him
to take charge of his own healing process. When children
listen to their inner selves, they learn what their bodies
need to stay healthy.
Chapter
10: Renewing Spirit
When we renew our spirit, we feed ourselves a delicious
dish of joy, tossed with excitement and topped with a bit
of laughter. During “Fudge Swirl,” children
fill a star with some of their favorite things, such as
a smile, toys or the yummiest food they can think of. Then
they happily mix it together, like chocolate syrup into
vanilla ice cream.
Chapter
11: Finding Out Who I Am
Children make better choices for themselves when they learn
about themselves. “Inside Friends” helps the
timid child gain more confidence to act on his inner voice
and helps the active child to listen more to his inner voice.
During this meditation, children receive gifts and encouraging
advice from two faithful friends they’ve always had.
Chapter
12: Creating New Meditations
What if the perfect meditation is not contained within these
pages? Not to worry. Provided are two extraordinary ways
you can create stimulating original meditations that will
have your child skipping and running back for more.
* Chapters 8 thru 11 offer a variety of meditations that
elicit the rewards discussed in Chapters 1 and 2. Background
information for each of the twelve meditations shows what
particular issues the meditation addresses and which cultural
practice the meditation is based on. Some of these meditations
use Zen techniques or progressive relaxation. Others draw
from ancient yogic practices, helping children bring balance
to their bodies by working with their Chi or chakra energy.
These chapters also present metaphorical journeys, similar
to what clinical therapists use to help their clients heal
from trauma.
Praise
for Sensational Meditation for Children
My boys
share their feelings more openly and are closer to me after
using the techniques. They are also more curious about meditation,
asking many questions.
Nancy Robles, Mother, Chicago
I use
these meditation techniques in public school to help children
reduce test-taking anxiety and stress, to build positive
peer relationships, and to enhance anger management strategies.
As a parent, I have used these meditations with my daughter
to help her relax in the doctor's office and to become quiet
at bedtime.
Jennifer Jazwierska, School Psychologist, Denver
Your
book and training program have given me a wonderful foundation
to begin teaching children meditation. I will refer back
to these materials often as I move forward in this new endeavor.

Now
I have a wider variety of kid-friendly meditations to use
with my yoga students. Professionally, my relationships
with both parents and kids are a little more intimate, richer
and deeper.
